Reporter: crime & fire
Eugene, Oregon
I am a passionate journalist with purpose. I use an investigative approach to create meaningful stories that spread awareness of social issues affecting the community. I currently cover crime at the Eugene Register-Guard. {Former crime, city gov't and features reporter at The Daily Astorian.} My passion is ignited when I discover breaking news and can be the first to tell the story, often live from the scene.

About

Chelsea Gorrow

I currently cover crime and fire related issues and stories for The Register-Guard in Eugene, Ore. Since I began here in August 2014, I have had the opportunity to report on several issues, including the seven-month murder streak in Lane County, the Umpqua Community College shooting, what many view as the the militarization of the local police forces, and the rise and fall and rise again of methamphetamine locally.

Prior to coming to Eugene, I previously worked at The Daily Astorian (2010-2014). I covered city council for Astoria and Warrenton, crime for Clatsop County and the occasional health and feature report. From flying in a helicopter with the Coast Guard on the morning of the Japanese Tsunami to exploring the boarded up Flavel house & finding Mary Louise, to covering Astoria’s sister-city trip to Waldorf, Germany, I had a number of once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Born and raised in Puyallup, I graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 2008. While in school, I studied journalism abroad in Australia and England. I interned at an ABC News affiliate in Wilmington, NC where I became the first intern to report live on the air. After graduation, I worked for The Leavenworth Echo in North Central Washington, a weekly paper where I earned a number of Washington Newspaper Publishers Association awards.

I hope to continue to use investigative journalism to create meaningful stories that spread awareness of social issues affecting my community. I have earned several awards , including the first place feature story award from the Society of Professional Journalists and last year's first place investigative journalism award.
